Andrew lives in a privately rented one bed flat in Kelso in the Scottish Borders with electricity only and a prepayment meter. This meant that in the winter he was finding it difficult to be able to heat his home and so to help himself financially he acquired an industrial space heater which he was using with a gas canister in his flat.
Andrew had a small fire in his kitchen which was unrelated to the space heater he was using. Although Andrew managed to put the fire out himself the fire brigade still attended and were alarmed to see the setup of the heater and the gas canister.
They passed Andrew’s details on to Home Energy Scotland to see if there was anything they could do to help Andrew reduce his electricity expenditure and help reduce any future fire risks.
This is when Emma Abram a Financial Capability Tutor from the Momentum Money Matters Project contacted Home Energy Scotland on Andrews behalf and went through an assessment process with Andrew, to provide him with some support.
The end result being Home Energy Scotland arranged for a free survey of his property and advised that Andrew qualified for a brand new gas central heating system which will be installed early October 2016 free of charge.
Andrew stated “ I can’t thank Momentum enough for assisting me through such a difficult time and I am now looking forward to nice cosy house in the winter! “
